Local regeneration projects are creating thousands of jobs in Newham and Workplace has been set up to ensure that residents benefit from these opportunities. Key developments which will create jobs include:
- Westfield Stratford City will be opening in 2011 and could create up to 8,000* retail, hospitality, catering and hotel jobs within up to 300 retail units. In the twelve months leading up to the opening, Workplace will be working closely with Westfield and the unit operators to get as many Newham residents as possible into jobs.
Workplace will be working with local providers to develop training courses to help Newham residents get the skills necessary to secure jobs in Westfield Stratford City.
To register your interest in jobs and training associated with retail, hospitality, catering and hotels at Westfield Stratford City please fill in this registration form.
*Please note that this figure does not mean 8,000 new vacancies as many staff will relocate from existing stores. It is not possible to identify the number of new job vacancies at this time.
- Royal Docks including Silvertown Quays and Biota! Aquarium - 16,300 jobs between now and 2016
- Canning Town & Custom House - 5,000 jobs between now and 2025
- Olympics and Paralympics - 12,000 jobs between now and 2012
In the initial stages of these projects, the bulk of jobs created will be in construction. However, as projects are completed, there will be opportunities to work in retail, customer services, hospitality, health & social care, and much more.
