May 18, 2007
A flagship project providing people with employment and training opportunities ahead of the 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games and other major developments in Newham will be officially launched on Tuesday, May 29.
Workplace in Stratford delivers high quality recruitment advice and training to local people wishing to improve existing skills, develop new ones and secure employment.
Driven by the needs of the employer, Workplace will meet the increased demand for trained, professional staff in the run up to 2012 and beyond. Workplace's tailored service combines careers advice and free training courses to provide potential employees with the tools to secure jobs. Courses on offer include Preparing for Work which involves a CV MOT and telephone skills and IT training.
Newham Mayor Sir Robin Wales, who will officially open the centre, said: "With exciting developments such as the London Games, Stratford City, Silvertown Quays and Canning Town, Newham is really changing.
"Workplace will give the community the chance to benefit from these opportunities over the coming years and provide business with locally based accomplished staff."
Through Workplace large and small businesses can source skilled employees without charging any recruitment costs. For businesses opening up in Newham, large scale job brokerage and training schemes can be set up. Businesses starting up can also access free expert advice.
Companies already backing the scheme include the developers for Stratford City and Silvertown Quays, John Lewis, London City Airport and Bovis Lend Lease.
