An experience that works
December 12, 2011
The Olympic and Paralympic Games are about more than just sport. Together, they bring life-changing prospects which aim to inspire residents before, during and after the Games. One opportunity which is inspiring people is the BBC 2012 London Work Experience Scheme, currently recruiting via Workplace.
The scheme is only open to residents of the six host Olympic boroughs and aimed at adults aged over 18 who are not graduates. The entry level scheme gives successful participants the opportunity to gain four weeks work experience in areas ranging from the BBC newsroom to BBC Children. Although the scheme is focused on offering work experience, candidates are made aware of how to apply for jobs at the BBC and the type of vacancies on offer.
With just two intakes to date, fourteen Newham residents to date have benefitted from this scheme. Kenneth was a member of our first intake of six applicants form Newham on the London 2012 work experience programme. He joined the BBC Vision Multiplatform team on a four week placement working on the Eastenders website, where he gained great insight into the BBC as well as on the job training and knowledge of multiplatform working. On completion of his work placement Kenneth applied for and successfully gained employment as an Editorial Assistant within the programme pages team of Vision Multiplatform. "The scheme has been a great experience for me as it has given me the opportunity to start a career at the BBC. I have met lots of great people along the way who have been very helpful, and it has allowed me to develop a lot of skills and qualities."
